First I want to say that I am very happy with this watch. The size is perfect, it fits well, it looks nice and has all the features I really need (stopwatch, analog and digital time, 24hr format on the digital, alarm, easy to read numbers, etc.). So overall I would recommend it.
There is only one minor complaint that I have about the watch that I wish I would've known before buying it. In order to save the battery Casio has made it so that the illumination button only lights up the watch for about 2 seconds -- even if you hold it down. Although 2 seconds is long enough for you to be able to tell the time at night, I wanted to used this as an EMT to check a patient's pulse while watching the second hand of the watch -- where you definitely need more than 2 seconds of light. One way they try to make up for it is by having an "auto-light" feature that you can turn on. What that does is every time you rotate your wrist about 45 degrees as if you were checking the time, the light turns on for 2 seconds so you can read the watch. Interesting idea, but I feel like that feature will end up wasting a lot more battery than if they just let you hold down the illumination button for as long as you want.
Anyway... I spent a lot of time researching watches on Amazon and I am happy I bought this one. -- Great watch - very minor complaint about illumination
After passing my EMT course, I wanted to purchase a watch with features that would assist me in performing my job. Through taking the course I began to think of some of the features I wanted in a watch, and some of the experienced EMTs gave me some pointers as well. Here is the set of criteria for which I was looking:
1. Sweep second hand (this makes taking vital signs such as heart rate much easier).
2. Digital display of date, at least month and day (This makes it easy for checking mental status and filling out reports).
3. Digital display of time in military time (in EMS time is recorded for everything, ABSOLUTELY everything; and the use of military time is universal).
4. Ability to display both 2. and 3. at the same time (elimitates having to cycle through your watch on a call).
5. Durable (because it could be knocked around).
6. Water Resistant (In case, body fluids got on the watch, I could thoroughly clean it without worrying about compromising the integrity of the watch).
It took this set of guidelines and began my watch search in some of the retail outlets near where I live. When I couldn't find any there, I began looking online. I was very frustrated by the fact that no one seemed to make an "EMT friendly" watch.
It took me a little while to find this watch, but it met all of the criteria I had established for a good EMS watch. It also had a few other useful features of which I hadn't thought. For example, this watch has a night mode, where if you hold the watch in front of you and tilt it towards yourself, it will turn on the backlight. This could be very useful in dimly light situations where you are trying to take a set of vitals. The disadvantage is that the backlight is green rather than red.
Overall, I am very pleased that I purchased this watch. I hope it will serve me for many years in the field. -- Perfect Watch for EMS career
This watch is the best underated thing that i have ever purchased that i actually purchased two of them at once just in case they stop making it. Perfect for someone who uses military time daily and needs an analog reference as well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -- Watch is underated
I have worn this watch for about one month at this writing and enjoy the easy to read face. As others have said, the strap is a bit flimsy but that is more than made up for by the useful functions and (so far) accuracy of the timekeeping. -- Good value for the price
